For quite a few years actually using Windows 7 and Windows 8...

...I have always found that when I plugged in my Apple iPhone (now I have an Apple iPad 4) instead of letting iTunes take it over, just let Windows 'Plug & Play' it and that way I have always been able to get my pictures, music and files from the device onto my computer.

As for putting stuff onto my iOS devices? Why? The App Store has all it needs for me, and OneDrive, DropBox and iCloud storage have all I need to put onto it from there (including music and pictures etc) - any mobile device is limited storage, so why do you want to clutter it all with your computer stuff?

I really can't understand how people have found it so difficult to use - I'm sure if I have managed it with my difficulties with no problem at all -  then any of you 'big boys' honestly could! ;)

It's designed to be easy to use but I am hugely against their shit programs that add themselves to startup.

Also, which device allows plug and play like that? I haven't tried one yet that just works when I plug it into my Linux pc, yet I have managed to get every single android phone to just work with drag and drop.

Even if it does do it now, finally, as matty said... After how long?

You see Linux - there's the rub...

...you will go for the 'free' version of Apple OS X installations! :P

I don't use Linux bud so I wouldn't know how to import/export and frankly wouldn't want too!

But whenever I have plugged in my old iPhone or indeed my iPad on any Windows 7 or Windows 8 (as well as Apple OS X) instead of launching it in iTunes the universal 'found new hardware' pops up and lets me just navigate the files on the device and copy them to my computer.

You mean OSX being the 'paid' version of UNIX/Linux ;)

Unix has been free for over 30 years iirc. So for Apple to come & take it then charge for it makes it an abnormality in the Unix family.

:P

Fair enough...

...but if you think that Linux has done so well since it was developed you go ahead and continue using it.
The Ubuntu app store compared to the Mac App Store, iOS app store and even at a push, the Windows Store is a joke!  And to install anything into a Linux computer in my opinion you need to be a boffin or rocket scientist anyway!

I've tried Linux, mainly because it has an OS X feel - but that I'm afraid for me is where the comparison ends beteen the two operating systems. It doesn't utilise your ram memory properly, you can't install native graphics drivers without having to run the 'Add Drivers' app and then they are only 'supported' by the community drivers, not native!

You can come back with me with as many reasons as you want about Apple - but believe me I will come back with as many reasons for it!

I know the majority of you hate Apple - but I don't - and I'm enjoying this banter... but if you want to declare a truce with this, I'm willing to do so, otherwise battle will continue to commence! :P

Ubuntu went to shit some time ago IMO. I prefer Linux Mint or a Debian core these days.

As for being a boffin, not really. Synaptic is far easier than finding an exe file really.

It's come a hell of a long way to be honest mate.

The Add Drivers app is only there because some cards need drivers that aren't open source, so it's seperating the open from the closed, which makes sense in the long run. Regarding not native drivers, well that's down to hardware makers not really recognising Linux which is annoying but hey ho.

It definitely uses the RAM properly as it should do, but that can vary from distro to distro.

I have no problem with the people that have reasons for liking Apple, such as yourself, and I'm not fighting with you. It was just asked why people hate Apple, so I'm explaining why I dislike it. I'm enjoying the thread too. You haven't mentioned anything about Apple being an evil company and trying to sue people for jailbreaking their own devices and copyrighting the rectangle and other bullshit stuff they've done though yet :P

Forgot to mention, the majority of websites are hosted on Linux servers due to it being more stable than most other OSs. My computer hadn't been switched off for around 9 months until recently when I moved house :D

Alth, you do the same as me, and I've hear some crackers everyday.

"this 3 pin plug doesn't fit, it's upside down", me "turn it up the other way", them "thanks it fits now".

Can I take your "DFES number"? "don't know it", "which school are you at", "not sure, just started today" - Fucking hell, so you don't actually know where you are!

FME is for life, not just for Christmas.
