It's with sadness I have to announce the death of one of our original FME community members. Regretfully, David Griffiths (AKA Daysleeper) was found dead in his flat in East Yorkshire on Sunday by a neighbour.
Those of you who were around in the early days will remember his huge contribution in assisting Re-Animator with BFMulator and he went on to make several layouts for that platform. He was also a constant presence on MSN Chat, IRC, Fruit Forums, Poundrun and Fruit-Emu.
I later years due to medical and mental issues he dwindled away from FME but popped in occasionally to catch up and was last active at DADsFME last year. This post describes him very well and are in fact his own words.....
Quote from: Daysleeper on Aug 10, 2025, 04:49 PMI guess I should introduce myself. I have been part of MFME from the late 90s and I.. managed to master making layouts on a new emulator called BFMulator. I managed somehow to become kinda a senior menber and for a short time I was an admin and ran Fruitforums.
All was going well, then I managed to get a leaked version of MFME, with its source code. This emulator could run MPU5 and S4. SO I did what I thought was the right thing and uploaded it with its source code for everyone to use. This kinda pissed of off Chris Wren, leading me to be banned from the new forum Desert Island Fruits, and my account was deleted from here - it was enough, I wasn't really contributing anything more to FME.
I wont go into detail but Andy (Dad) lived close to me, so we went out drinking for a while, became friends -but me being me, I fucked it up. Some good came from it, though, his daughter is one of the nicest people I know and she is now my sister in law as my brother married her. I have nieces and nephews now who are Dads grandkids.
The reason I want to be back is that I saw videos on YouTube made by Alex. It rekindled my interest. I still have Photoshop, which I managed to get pretty good at, and I have a stash of ROMs, so I thought, why not? I hope to be releasing something pretty soon - just got to gather some resources.
Anyway, I guess that my life story with FME. Id love to get back in contact with the dudes I used to talk to in MPU34 IRC chat, so if you're one of them, post and say hi...Hey Id even like to talk to Andy Tutton - and that's saying something.
And thanks Andy for authorising my account.
David is now at peace and free of the struggles which he battled with in later life. My thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
Andy
RIP my friend
RIP sir, be at peace
RIP Daysleeper.
This is a BIG ask but does anyone have any of DS's BFMulator layouts? I know he did Club65 Special and possibly Pen1 but I can't recall the others. His family has asked if they could see some of his old work.
Thanks
Ah, always sad to hear when old members pass on. I didn't really interact with him personally but still, sad news ineed. How old was he
@DAD ?
