Title: Forum upgrade to SMF 2.1 RC4
Post by: DAD on Oct 17, 2021, 09:16 AM
As title suggests I've upgraded the forum to the latest version.  As this version is still BETA, please report any issues you may find.  Hopefully (fingers crossed) everything should be fine.

Thanks very much :)

I'm getting this a fair amount since the update -

"Call to undefined function idna_maps_not_std3()"

not had that.  When are you getting the error?

Still getting the error, sometimes when checking PMs, sometimes when trying to read the latest post on a thread.  Some threads work some do not.  From Google it seems a common fault with this software update but can't find a fix.

I didn't get chance to check the SMF forum but if it's a common problem then hopefully a fix should be forthcoming soon.

I'm struggling to read most of the forum now.  There is a thread at SMF but I can't see a decent fix.

There IS a fix but it involves commenting out a couple of lines of code in the Punycode.php file.  I could do this but it would involve setting up my old laptop which I don't have to hand right now.

According to the SMF Guys an update is on the way so I reckon that's what we'll have to wait for.  Hopefully it shouldn't be to long.

Plus, there aren't that many users who still visit this site these days.  It's getting almost as bad as FE and I've had it in mind for a while to shut up shop.  The only thing that stops me is that wizard wanted to continue as a sideline to DIF and the fact that its linked directly via MFME 20.1 as a FME resource.  That and that alone is why it's still here!!

I still use here as it gives me a chance to see your fantastic layouts plus I'm able to upload here for people who don't often use DIF.

Think the thing is we've lost members and then there are members who have just stopped visiting/ logging onto the forums for what ever reasons.

Not that I want to see the site go, but an alternative, if possible, would be to have a Dadsfme section at DIF, like the Dxcellent section.

But if you are happy with the costs, it involves to run the site, then I don't see any harm in it remaining.

I know in the past, it's always paid to have an alternative site available, incase the main site gets taken down. But DIF looks like it will be around, until the end of FME. Lots of posts daily, a very calm atmosphere most of the time. And any conflicts, seem to blow over quickly and without members quitting etc.

DADsFME as you know is hosted on the same server as DIF and now costs me nothing at all.  Any donation offers I receive always get re-directed to DIF.  The only thing I pay for out of my own pocket is for the domain name which I'm still happy to do.  I just wish DAD's was a bit busier but I accept that it might possibly be down to me.
