I used to follow DADs' thread on the other forum with Ross IIRC regarding their other hobbies, mainly playing guitar... Was always very interesting to read, hopefully that thread can be revisited here or somewhere... :)
Anyone who has me on Facebook will know of my other two hobbies.....
One and I'm not sure why I think it was my daughter got a couple when she was younger is collecting Hippos. Yip soft toy ones, glass ornaments, Hippo pens etc etc.... anything with a hippo on it.... lol.
Secondly and this is the one where I appeal for help is I collect elongated pennies. This started when my son wanted some in Florida from Disney World, over the next three years we managed to collect all from there and Universal Studios and the Kennedy Space Centre. Many new Disney ones have been introduced since my last visit, they are relentless lol. I know JAFC has sent me some from Blackpool and I've had some sent from Paris etc. I have personally collected a lot from Germany, Belgium and places here like Manchester, Liverpool and the Midlands.
I would be grateful is anyone sees a machine they could nab them and let me know (I will pay for them etc,) especially if you are from Yorkshire, London or generally the South Coast. I do have lists if anyone wants to check.... thanks :)
We often used to collect these when my son was younger. Might have some kicking around, you will no doubt have them being a collector.
I'm sure I remember a Doctor one, not sure where that was from, maybe Skegness Butlins.
Anyway I can have a look.
J
These are the ones from Florida you already know about ;)
Might as well be beanie babies.
Other hobbies, apart from drinking, wanking, tits, and fannies are -
ROMS and emulation - Currently at over 24TB online.
North-East Industrial Heritage - pits, iron, steel, shipbuilding etc.
North-East Railways, in particular inclines.
Comedy, particular North-Eastern, Bobby Thompson, Alan Snell, Bobby Martin, Billy Hooper, Brendan Healy etc.
Spending time with the two Birman cats.
NQ.
Oh, I think I have a couple from Florida. If I remember clearly we used one of these penny pressers in an M&M shop at a mall in Florida.
J
@re-emulated I do not have the Dr Who ones as they are not near me now, used to be in Liverpool. I also do not have the M&M ones. I do have the ones DAD posted, thanks..
So they would be great of course :)
NQ.... are you interested in just North East Industry or will the Midlands do? I know I've picked up some bits and pieces for you in the past but I can get loads of stuff regarding the Potteries and on other days out stuff to do with canals and iron works stuff, let me know.. :) Oh plenty of fannies around here but probably not the type you are looking for.. :)
i collect dust ;)
I've a few.
-Playing fruit machines in real life
-Fixing computers and laptops (both hardware and software)
-Looking after a few forums and IRC networks
-Hacking phones (for example, custom roms/software, not as in voicemail shit that NOTW got in trouble for, that's not even hacking)
-Travelling about on trains (although usually to do something or stay somewhere, but I do like trains)
I'll probably think of loads more but can't remember right now.

Fucking Reflex.
Apple bashing too!
My sister bless her sent me this one but neglected to get the others from the same machine.... ;)
I happened to mention once to one of my nephew's that I loved watching 'Meerkat Manor' on the Animal Planet channel...
...since then - I have ended up with a Meerkat mural, Meerkat ornaments, a Meerkat mug, a Meerkat fountain pen, pen and pencil set and a Meerkat that lights up at night on the garden patio which charges through the Sun.
I wish I hadn't ever said anything now! ;)

paington zoo or is it trago mills, near each other lol had one of them squasher's for pennies in there. my other hobby is playing music as in keyboard/piano although not played much in the last few years even wrote my own songs around 10 of them lol.
I used to build bikes a lot, having previously worked at Sturmy Archer in Nottingham, however after a road accident a few years back and quite a nasty open arm fracture, I've lost quite a lot of grip strength in my left arm, so don't tend to do as much now.
Also have a keen interest in electronics, so bodes well with my FME love, having several real machines at my flat, perhaps a few too many if I am honest, but I blame that on going on machine hunts with riche100 from the Mecca :D

Went to my first Airshow last year at RAF Wadington which was fantastic even though the weather wasn't that brill. Normally I like looking at WW2 stuff and been for a tour around the Battle of Britain memorial flight at RAF Connigsby and viewed the 'Just Jane' Lancaster bomber at East Kirkby a couple of times. Elvington near York is pretty good too.
Its my brothers fault for taking me to see the Battle of Britain at the cinema when I was eight lol
ahh yes, great aircraft to see, spitfires hurricanes etc, its amazing how they keep these things airworthy

Was at Cosford yesterday... to get some pressed coins lol ;)
Big coin collector. I have 3 kew garden 50ps :)
I do collect a few of the current coins that are in circulation now but mainly gold and silver. More silver than gold mind, that shit is expensive!
I even asked AM to send me some from the IOM nicely, and he did :D They have some wicked designs over there!
I don't have any hobbies, involving collecting or any hobbies, that I consistently do.
My spare time involves watching football, retro computing and computing general. When outside, going on holidays and spending days out with mates, involving usual ladish things.
These arrived today, got a fair idea who from........ cheers DAD :)
Have a few hobbies, playing football( but sadly my legs can't keep up with my brain)
so time to give it up.
photography, and golf is my others.
gold dives you mad at times, some days you play like a champ,
next day you play like a chump.
but good fun all the same, and it keeps you fit.
i played this course last year ( mar hall) in the west of scotland.
and the second one dalmuir park. nice little municipal woodland course.
also like planes, here is some of the blue angels a friend from america sent me over.
I'm into playing Train Simulator 2015, which I have got through the Steam account and a few routes and activities from there too... I also love the 'Daddy' of the train sims - Microsoft Train Simulator 2001!
I have 20 routes, activities and BIN files for that - you can't beat a bit of nostalgia - and whilst I can still play them (and install them after formatting the computers) - I will continue to do so... it keeps me sane - being the driver of a train! ;)
Still spend my time developing apps/utilities in my spare time :)
Most recent ones are a Samsung smart TV app for enigma2 satellite receivers - http://www.pembo.co.uk/e2stream
Raspberry Pi/Arduino Lightwave RF Home Automation control app - http://www.pembo.co.uk/category/arduino/
Also did a few very popular wii homebrew apps back when the wii was still around, including bootmii configuration editor and tetwiis.
A demanding job and 2 young kids take up an awful lot of my time so I don't have a lot to myself anymore!
A mate of mine who works for the Local Council, collects dustbins!!!
That e2 stream app looks interesting. May have to give it a shot!

Now another late in the day hobby has sneaked up on me, something I'v always wanted to do but never did... fishing! Since I only live a couple of 100 yards from the river mouth it would be rude not to. Not going to bother with carp fishing or fly fishing (yes the book) so I'll stop with sea/shore fishing. Gear is not too expensive to begin with and it's quite therapeutic making the rigs... I always thought a 1 up, 1 down was something else ;)

Real fishing off a pier or boat or just namby pamby river/carp fishing?
I used to go river fishing and really enjoyed it. Just sitting by the river waiting for a bite became a 'form of therapy' for me as it was so relaxing. Well, it's relaxing until you get snagged! Did a bit of sea fishing as well :)

Well technically where I go is either off the pier so the sea or a few 100 yards up from the Mouth so maybe river but still salt water of course. Yeah getting snagged is a arse, I hate losing rigs/weights lol.

I've frozen my bollocks off on Saltburn pier a few times! ;) Had some good days/nights fishing off that pier the only problem was when it was busy on there I'd sometimes end up fishing near someone who could talk a glass eye to sleep. Fished at South Gare in Redcar as well...so that was my bit of sea/shore fishing. I took up watercolour painting after fishing and found that to be just as therapeutic. Might have a go at knitting next... ;)
I am thinking of getting a metal detector, does anyone have one
or can recommend a decent one.
it will be better than my recent attempt at golf , 4omph wind ffs!!!
my balls were all over the place. ??? :-\
Sort of fits in with this site..... classic comps, namely a Commodore C64c
Recently picked up one in basically factory fresh condition (Needs no retrobrite at all), warranty label still in tact, programming book included and all the after market sales crap you tend to get etc..... box a bit tatty, but everything is in A1 condition.
Got from a place just down road from me mates new house in Sutton-in-Ashfield.
Also included, is a games cartage (No tape deck, but you will like my alt solution), where upon opening, unfortunately is not the expected 25 / 27 series EPROM (Was hoping it was, as I have a programmer I use for fruit machines that can program ROM's), however gave a clue as to the vintage of the machine, which is 1989, so must have been one of the last to be made.
Now, most C64's have been going for over £100 on e-bay, however I paid at a shop, just £80, and the guy even supplied 3 joystick, including the well known Cheetech.
Now as for loading games, you can get devices, that plug in to the back of the C64, that will emulate the device intended, which work out at around £25 per device, and to load games, you use files intended for emulators like Vice, and drop them on to a micro SD card, shove in to the device emulator, and away you go.
HEH, first game loaded, had to be Codemasters Fruit Machine 2, followed by Arkanoid 2 (Yes the DEBBIE S cheat works!), and followed up by Paradroid and Uridium.
The seller of the tape emulator I have, also has a multi platform tape emulator, that works on the likes of Spectrum, Dragon 32, BBC Micro (All variants), and a few others.
https://youtu.be/CPB9zpknDAw
As a side note, place where I got the C64 from, currently has an Amiga 500 in :)

Nah, he's just a massive gimp... I know him well though lol
Time to revive this thread a again as after nearly 50 years of playing the guitar I've finally taken the plunge and joined a band. We're doing mostly 60s/70s stuff, especially Buddy Holly as the lead singer likes his stuff a lot.
Its a bit of a wake up call for me as its not the stuff I normally play. Those of you who remember me posting a few MP3s years ago will know I'm more into classic rock.
Anyway its early days as we've only had a couple of rehersals so far and yet to play a proper gig, but I'm having a blast :D
Here's a track called "Do you Wanna Dance" recorded at our second ever rehersal. Feedback good or bad would be great :)
Really like it but being an old timer like I am and the family background I have I grew up from everything even as far back as Carmen Miranda, Doris Day, Bing Crosby and the like, so this is my type of thing. I get the drift and is pretty good tbf, not sure if it was my lappy but sounds a bit distant especially with the vocals, wouldn't mind hearing a very clear master as I do like this era of music as still listen to it now with the old girl.
Go for it bud you got some groove going on there.

thanks for the reply. Yes it does sound a bit distant as it was recorded on a mobile phone. Also we were very loud so the phone compensated for that. If we ever do a proper recording in a studio I'll post back here :)
Well the band is coming along nicely and we're now out doing gigs around the Hull area which is probably why I've not much time for FME at the moment. we're now called the 'Creaky Chairs' as we're all old fuckers and we thought the name sounded good lol

After an absence of about 40 years, finally got back into 00 guage.
In fact, devoted an entire room to it.
9 foot by 5 foot baseboard.
Style is the NER, around the 1950's, so mainly steam shunters, coal trucks, branch lines, but also a hint of early diesels.
Spent the last 3 weeks, every day sorting it. Now can anyone sell me a new back, cos mine is fucked. :)

Yep, it'll never be finished. But it's quite good to think "right, I'm sorting the coal drops and staithes tonight" - so I start after work at 4, and before you know it, shit it's 12, and I've got to be up in 6 hours etc.!
Wish I had more skills though to create paper mache and paint it decent. Mine looks like it's been done by a 3 year old with Crayola crayons.........
